..over 50 professionals from the various Pacific Islands Telecomunication entities in the private and goverment sectors recently participated at a Strategy workhsop.
The workshop titled "SENIOR MANAGEMENT TRAINING ON TELECOM STRATEGY FOR THE PACIFIC - THE NEXT FIVE YEARS" was part of the preliminary strategy study work that PITA and the ITU Center of Excellence for the Asia Pacific organised, in the ongoing annual collaboration between PITA and the ITU Centre of Excellence Asia Pacific to bring high level capacity building for telecom professionals.
With the telecom/ICT sector undergoing rapid transformation as services move from just voice and data to a wide range of applications, country administrations are looking at integrating ICTs into mainstream socio-economic sectors to boost growth and improve lives of citizens while industry is looking at new services and application with new revenue streams in these emerging smart services.
The workshop activities included group and interactive sessions amongst the participants on how these changes and forces would impact on the telecom and ICT sector in the Pacific and what would be some key considerations and requirements in developing new strategies in the coming years.
The workshop was held on 16-18 November 2016, at Nadi in FIJI with participants from Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Tokelau, Kiribati, Palau, Vanuatu and joined by industry players from Australia, China, and Singapore.
