BlueSky Samoa introduced Moana TV; its Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service on Friday evening of the 2nd November 2012 in a limited launch event. IPTV is the latest technology in television service. BlueSky uses its ADSL Broadband network to deliver content to a digital set top box installed in peoples homes and businesses. Moana TV is the first IPTV service not only in Samoa but also in the entire South Pacific.
Through Moana TV, subscribers will be able to receive and enjoy more than twenty local and international channels. It will be the largest selection of news, sports, religious, science, childrens and entertainment programming available in Samoa.
At the limited launch BlueSkys CEO, Aoee Adolfo Montenegro introduced and showed the new IPTV service to a roomful of government officials and private enterprise leaders in Apia, Samoa. He shared that the service is currently deployed in 50 test locations and will be rolled out in phases. In its first phase, the service will only be available in selected areas including Apia Urban through to Puipaa heading west, through to Laulii on the East coast of Upolu, and Siumu on Upolus South coast. The service will be commercially available to residents and businesses in those areas in December. Additional areas in Upolu and coverage in Savaii are in the next roll out phase.
Moana TV is the latest of BlueSkys product innovations to hit the market and, as CEO Aoee stated in his address, "We continue to be committed to innovation and continuous improvement of our services to the people of Samoa. This is just the beginning, as we continue to work hard to extend coverage, and to realize the potential of the technology which includes features like Video On Demand, Personalized schedules and Digital video recording".
Prime Minister of Samoa, Tuilaepa Sailele Lupesoliai Malielegaoi was the Keynote Speaker at the event. He congratulated BlueSky for this remarkable achievement and milestone for Samoa.
