Noumea, 23 December, 2004 - Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) and Service des Postes et Télécommunications (SPT) of Wallis and Futuna announce today the launching of the new fixed switching center in the island of Futuna. Alcatel has supplied digital E10 system, replacing the initial analog switching center.
This new technology will enable SPT to connect new subscribers and to offer better service quality. SPT is now able to provide all the people of Futuna with fixed telephony service, especially the people on waiting list. Digital technology will also improve Futuna's internet access quality.
This commissioning was part of a broader contract between Alcatel and SPT. Indeed, Alcatel and SPT have signed a global contract for the extension and upgrade of Wallis and Futuna fixed network.
This contract includes:
- 2 new Customer Nearest Elements (CNE) in order to provide new accesses for Voice, fax and Internet services.
- Software upgrade of the switching center in Wallis to anticipate new services and new telecom challenges.
- A file collector dealing with call data records in order to optimize billing process.
This contract covers infrastructure but also associated services such as installation, commissioning technical assistance and training in order to offer turnkey solutions to SPT to face growth and technological evolutions.
