Over 30 HR managers from the telecommunications industry in Pacific and Asia region met recently at the Mocambo Hotel, Nadi Fiji from September 26-29th 2005 to discuss and learn on the key roles of Aligning HR Management in Organisation Changes to enable organisations meet their goals
The meet over 4 days included lectures, work group exercise and presentations covering topics such as Roles of HR, HR Strategy, HR Plan, Motivation & Competencies Management and discussions on key HR issues in a changing organisation such as corporate strategies, typologies of organisation changes, current trends, objectives and features for alignments and case studies from the developed countries and the Pacific. Presentation on useful HR Management tools were also conducted to help delegates with their HR work in their own work place.
The HR professionals have agreed to continue the forum and have developed a HR Club consisting of a Chairperson from Tonga, and two Vice chairpersons, from the Pacific Is and a participating Asia country. The HR club aims to provide ongoing forum for the HR Professionals for exchange on key issues and significant work on HR.
The ITU HR Administrator in the Telecommunications Development Bureau (BDT) HRD division, Mr. Jean Claude Faure said in his report to the meeting that ITU has already embarked on a 4 year BDT program on Human Resources for training opportunities and developing HR for strategic advantage, focusing on two important issues of Change Management and Strategic Management. This will involve a series of workshops, discussion foras, case studies and training planned for 2006 and 2007. The next project also involving the Pacific Islands HR professional will be on an online training on HR Appraisals Systems
