Investment Gaps Threaten Digital Society Progress

September 9, 2024

At the APT 17th Policy and Regulatory Forum for the Pacific, held in Tonga from September 3–5, 2024, the PITA President emphasized the widening investment gap in broadband development. Joining online, he presented the growing case of digital usage outpacing infrastructure investment, and the consequent mounting pressure that the telecom operators are facing. He called for stronger government support and policy shifts to ensure equity in digital investment, projecting that hundreds of millions in investment would be required for Pacific nations to meet transformation goals. PITA is working with GSMA and following the lead from the Caribbean peers to build advocacy data.
