Technical training sessions to help strengthen operational expertise & strategic readiness
October 13, 2025
The Pacific Islands Telecommunications Association (PITA) hosted a series of technical sessions in Nadi, Fiji, from 6–8 October 2025, scheduled around the PITA Strategy Forum aimed at strengthening the operational expertise, support strategic readiness, and build a collaborative platform for network engineers across the region. With over 70 participants from 14 Pacific Island countries, the activity offered practical, real-world learning that complements the strategic discussions among leadership and policymakers.
While PITA continues to offer training opportunities throughout the year, this occasion was designed to be a one-stop event — a broad “feast” of technical topics, including selected regulatory considerations — bringing together practical sessions that cover every part of network technology, which are often addressed separately, providing a broader exposure within a single coordinated program.
Practical, Applied Knowledge:
Designed around real operational priorities, the sessions offered participants practical knowledge for modern network deployments, troubleshooting, and evolving architectures. By drawing trainers directly from field experts and operational practitioners, the learning remained hands-on and grounded in everyday realities faced by operators.
Participants also appreciated the opportunity to work alongside peers from other islands, reinforcing the spirit of shared learning and regional collaboration that continues to be a PITA hallmark.
Positive Engagement and Outlook:
There is recognition of the need for continued skills development and the sessions served as a welcome platform to explore the idea of grouping network-oriented learning under a single activity, allowing for expanded coverage of topics and exchange of knowledge among technical teams while offering better logistics, cost efficiency to better exploited
There is clear potential for continuity of such sessions, supported through collaborations with members, partners, and donors, ensuring that professionals from smaller operators and remote islands remain included.
