PacNOG 36 – completed in Rarotonga

November 30, 2025

𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗡𝗢𝗚 𝟯𝟲 has successfully concluded in Rarotonga, Cook Islands, hosted by Vodafone Cook Islands.

With the support of APNIC, NSRC, and ICANN who are long-standing Pacific Internet partners providing trainers and expert resources, additional support from FLEXOPTIXs enabled seven fellowship-assisted participants joining other engineers from across the region, coming together to strengthen operational skills, routing security practices, and technical capacity for Pacific networks.

The 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 (Day 1) featured contributions from APNIC, NSRC, ICANN, the University of Oregon, and regional specialists, covering Git workflows, routing security and Internet growth, optical fundamentals, Pacific IDNs, RPKI implementation, DNS/DDoS insights, ICANN84 updates, and Unix/Linux operations.

A highlight of this Day 1 conference was the 𝗼𝗳𝗳-𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 at Muri Lagoon and Koka Island, offering a change of environment for country updates, peer discussions, and operator collaboration.

Participants then took part in two 4-days hands-on workshops:

  • 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 (𝗡𝗠𝗠)
  • 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝘆𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘁 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 (𝗣𝗖𝗜𝗢)

Travel to the Cook Islands proved challenging for a number of members. However, those who were able to attend benefited from greater access to trainers, extended engagement time, and a close-knit learning environment. Participants travelled from the regional islands that include:
Fiji, Kiribati, Palau, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Vanuatu, and the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). Together with local participants, there were close to 40 participants.

𝗣𝗜𝗧𝗔 looks forward to continuing its role in coordinating and managing the PacNOG programs with our partners, supporting a skilled, connected, and resilient Pacific network operator community.
