September 18, 2024

Joining the opening plenary for the ITU’s 24th Asia-Pacific Regional Radiocommunication Seminar (RRS-24) held in Apia, Samoa, Ms. Christina Lasaqa, CEO of Our Telekom and PITA Executive Member, in her opening remarks stressed the importance of continuous collaboration, capacity building, and advocacy. The event gathered national administrations and industry stakeholders to discuss key aspects of radiocommunication services and their regulation in the region, supporting the Pacific in navigating Pacific’s unique spectrum needs in the increasingly complex spectrum environments

Drawing from PITA’s experience, Christina shared insights on the critical role of spectrum in enabling connectivity in remote areas, supporting economic growth, disaster resilience, and innovation. She addressed the growing pressure on essential satellite bands that continue to be the life bands, stressing the need to safeguard these for critical communications and to update the ITU database to prevent harmful interference.

She further advocated for regional harmonization, innovation-friendly policies, and long-term investment security, calling on all stakeholders to work together in shaping an inclusive and future-ready spectrum landscape for the Pacific.
