Panel Session discussion on addressing and rising above disruption – PITA Strategy Forum 2025, Nadi Fiji

Senior telecom leaders and technology partners came together at the PITA Strategy Forum 2025 on 08–09 October 2025 at the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa in Nadi. One of the most insightful sessions featured a panel discussion on how the Pacific can address and rise above the disruptive shifts impacting telecommunications today.

Discussions emphasized strong positive outcomes and forward plans, including:

• Partnering to expand rural connectivity: Collaborative infrastructure rollouts are enabling more remote communities to benefit from affordable access, supported by efficient technologies and clean‑energy powered solutions.

• Sustainable and balanced market growth: The panel noted the value of maintaining competitive conditions that preserve national value creation, while ensuring customers benefit from improved experiences and service choice.

• Strengthening digital sovereignty: Growing focus is being placed on trusted networks and local data control, with action underway to support data hosting and protection aligned to national needs.

• Making better use of existing subsea capacity: With much design capacity still underutilized, initiatives around AI, cloud services and local innovation are key to unlocking economic and social value from infrastructure already in place.

• Performance‑led service return: Real examples highlighted that when strong local networks and on‑island infrastructure are available — supported by responsive customer care — users are more inclined to return to domestically anchored services rather than remain dependent on offshore‑run offerings that bring limited local value.

The session underscored that while disruption is reshaping telecommunications, it also brings fresh opportunities to rethink, collaborate and chart shared pathways forward.

It remains a unique space for leaders to openly exchange experiences, challenge assumptions and align strategies that support resilient and future‑ready connectivity across Pacific islands and communities.
