Mr. Semisi Panuve, the CEO of the Tonga Cable Company and also the Member of the PITA Executive Committee, in joining the organiser and host at the opening session of the ITU Regional Radiocommunications Seminar 2022 for Asia and the Pacific, reminded delegates on the vital importance of well managed and regulated frequency spectrum which at the national level provides comfort for investors and at the regional and international level avoids, eliminates and minimizes potential interference.

He thanked the ITU Bureau for Radiocommunications in organising this very important regional seminar with an extensive and well put together 5-days program. He encouraged delegates to learn as much as they can on the topics of radio frequency spectrum, satellite orbits and, in particular, the application of the provisions of the ITU Radio Regulations and Rules of Procedure.

“We are entering an age where we are seeing huge and fast advancements in technology with technologies like IMT, IOT and these mega low earth orbit satellites like One Web and Starlink.  So, it is important that we get a good handle on regulating our environment to ensure protection for our existing systems and setting up a predictable and efficient regulatory environment that will make investors comfortable and confident in introducing their new technologies and investments in our countries.”

In concluding his contributing opening remarks, Mr Semisi again thanked the Ministry of Communications of Fiji for hosting this seminar in Fiji and in the Pacific.

The Regional Seminar is held from 15 to 20 December 2022 at the Sofitel Resort in Nadi FIJI.
